Monument to the Victims of Communism in Ottawa - Canada
Communist Sign the petition to support the building of a Monument to the Victims of Communism, in Ottawa, Canada

To: Parliament of Canada
While the horrors of Nazism are well known, who knows that the Soviet Union murdered 20 million people? Who knows that China's dictators have slaughtered an estimated 60 million? Who knows that the Communist holocaust has exacted a death toll surpassing that of all of the wars of the 20th century combined ? Just as we must grasp Communism's brutality, we must understand the true cause of this era's most significant event: the fall of the Soviet Union. While we believe that Vaclav Havel was right when he saw the fall of the Communist empire as an event on the same scale as the fall of the Roman Empire, it was not the end of Communism. Boycott of Greek products in Albania
Boycott of Greek products in Albania!

Albanian nationalists, who accuse Greece of turning the country into a non-conventional colony of Greece, are using the protest to halt the rising power of Greece in the country. In 2006 Greek Imports reached EUR 406mn, while Greek investments are estimated at over EUR 400mn. Greek companies and businesses own substantial shares in the telecommunication, petroleum and financial markets in the country. Strong protests were organized by the "Cham" population, ethnic Albanians that used to live in the territory of current Greece till the end of World War II. Afterwards, they forcedly expelled from their properties. Therefore we call on you to Boycott greek products in Albania

Albanian Geography:

Narta Lagoon - the most beautiful place on earth

Zvėrnec - Narta Lagoon is only a few kilometres to the northwest of Vlora. One can catch the first
glimpse of the Lagoon from the hills next to the salt mine and all the way up to Vlora, on the road from Fier. Zvėrnec, with its small island, is located 14 km from Vlora, where the Soda Forest ends and the Narta Lagoon begins. The whole landscape is a beautiful natural ensemble, full of contrasts and a harmonious combination of natural beauty and a peace.

The entire area of the lagoon and the sea, as well as Zvėrnec with its island and monastery, form an interesting ecosystem that is very attractive to visitors. The Narta Lagoon, with an area of 41.8 square km covers the entire North-western part of the Vlora Bay and is separated by the Adriatic Sea by a narrow strip of land, made up of alluvial dunes 8 km long and 100-1400 m wide.

Karaburuni Peninsula in the Albanian Ionian Riviera

Albania News
Non-Governmental Organizations Observations on recently issued Environmental Permit allowing development of Wind farms in the Protected area of Karaburuni Peninsula - Albania

The undersigned non-governmental organizations recognize the fundamental importance of Vlore increasing Albania's renewable energy sector as part of international efforts to combat climate change and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

We further recognize that wind energy is a clean renewable, non-polluting source of energy that together with other sources of renewable such as solar, geothermal and biomass, deserve greater government support than it currently receives when taking into account the external environmental costs posed by electricity generated from fossil fuel sources.

However, we are concerned that in the absence of a clear strategy governing wind farm developments and their environmental impacts, their full benefits will not be realized to the Albanian economy.

In particular, we are deeply concerned with the recently issued Environmental Permit allowing development of wind farms in the protected area of Karburuni Peninsula along the Albanian Ionian Riviera.

Lake Ohrid - Europe's oldest Lake

Lake Ohrid, that came into being between four to ten million years ago, is Europe's
    The Lake of Ohrid
oldest lake, and is amongst the oldest in the world. It is a typical oligotrophic lake, meaning that it contains low levels of nutrients. By its origin the lake is a tectonic one and belongs to the so-called group of "Desaretian lakes" (named by an ancient region called Desaretia). The Lake came about in the tertiary period, prior to the glaciations.

Otherwise, most of the lakes of the world came into being immediately after the end of the latest glaciations period. Only a few lakes in the world are older than this one. Famous examples are Lake Baikal, Caspian Lake, and Lake Tanganyka and just a few lakes situated on Celebes, Philippines and China.
