Monument to the Victims of Communism in Ottawa - Canada
Communist Sign the petition to support the building of a Monument to the Victims of Communism, in Ottawa, Canada

To: Parliament of Canada
While the horrors of Nazism are well known, who knows that the Soviet Union murdered 20 million people? Who knows that China's dictators have slaughtered an estimated 60 million? Who knows that the Communist holocaust has exacted a death toll surpassing that of all of the wars of the 20th century combined ? Just as we must grasp Communism's brutality, we must understand the true cause of this era's most significant event: the fall of the Soviet Union. While we believe that Vaclav Havel was right when he saw the fall of the Communist empire as an event on the same scale as the fall of the Roman Empire, it was not the end of Communism. Boycott of Greek products in Albania
Boycott of Greek products in Albania!

Albanian nationalists, who accuse Greece of turning the country into a non-conventional colony of Greece, are using the protest to halt the rising power of Greece in the country. In 2006 Greek Imports reached EUR 406mn, while Greek investments are estimated at over EUR 400mn. Greek companies and businesses own substantial shares in the telecommunication, petroleum and financial markets in the country. Strong protests were organized by the "Cham" population, ethnic Albanians that used to live in the territory of current Greece till the end of World War II. Afterwards, they forcedly expelled from their properties. Therefore we call on you to Boycott greek products in Albania

CHAMERIA:

The Cham Issue – Where to Now ?

CHAMERIA
    Key Points

    By Miranda Vickers

    Chameria
    * The ethnic Albanian and predominantly Muslim Chams from north western Greece are escalating their campaign for the restitution of their property and citizenship rights inGreece. Recently there have been some significant political and cultural initiatives to raise awareness of the Cham issue. These include the formation of a new political party, the Party for Justice and Integration (PJI), and moves to internationalise theCham case in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

    * The Greek government refuses to discuss the matter publicly, claiming that the Cham issue does not exist. The Albanian government, however, cannot ignore the problem due to growing pressure from Cham organisations and sympathisers within the main Albanian political parties. Following last summer's large demonstration on the Greek border, which received widespread publicity, the Chams are co-ordinating and intensifying their activities with increasing support from the large Cham diaspora. Such actions have caused tensions between Athens and Tirana.

    * The Chams will soon have exhausted all channels to find apeaceful solution to their demands. Dialogue between Tirana, Athens, Cham representatives and international mediators to resolve the issue is urgently needed in order to avoid further straining relations between Albania and Greece, and risking the issue being hijacked by radicals.

CHAMERIA:

A Brief History of Northern Epirus

CHAMERIA
In the southern Balkans. nationalist controversies involve history, archeology, religion, language and even geography. Northern Epirus has been described wholly or in part as Illyria, Epirus, Macedonia, Albania, and Greece. Some have claimed that the ancient Epirote tribes were Illyrian, while others contend that they were completely Hellenized.

    Chameria
By Stavros - My Greek Odyssey

Unlike most other Greeks of the time, who lived in or around city-states such as Athens or Sparta, the Epirotes lived in small villages. Their region lay on the edge of the Greek world and was far from peaceful; for many centuries, it remained a frontier area contested with the Illyrian peoples. However, Epirus had a far greater religious significance than might have been expected given its geographical remoteness, due to the presence of the shrine and oracle at Dodona - regarded as second only to the more famous oracle at Delphi. The Epirotes seem to have initially been regarded with some disdain by the Greeks of the south. The historian Thucydides describes them as "barbarians" and the only Epirotes regarded as truly Greek were the Aeacidae, who claimed to be descended from Neoptolemus, son of Achilles.
